Ravin R series is a masterclass from Ravin. Even though a lot of people tend to hate on them due to their over popularity. But in my opinion, Ravin deserves all the hype it got and still getting. Ravin is delivering top-notch crossbows consistently each year.
Ravin R20 was one of the best crossbows when it came out. As years went by, Ravin released their successors. Ravin R26 and Ravin R29. How does the Ravin R26 compare against its predecessor R20? Let’s find out.

- Ravin R26 is lighter than Ravin R20.
- Ravin R26 is way smaller and more compact than Ravin R20.
- Ravin R26 has a shorter power stroke than Ravin R20.
- Ravin R20 is faster than Ravin R26.
These are the noteworthy differences between the two. Now let’s find out which one to choose among two and why.
Is Ravin R20 Worth Your Money!
You may argue it’s old now and not worth it anymore. But I will argue it’s still one of the few crossbows that is 100% worth what you are paying for. Keeping a resell value for that long is quite astonishing. Also, the fact that Ravin R20 is faster than Ravin R26 plays a huge role in the decision making as well.
But hey, value is value. And you guys know just how much I appreciate value. Ravin R20 is a flagship crossbow and was one of the most expensive crossbows when it released. But the MRP of the bow dropped by a bit. Which makes it even more appealing right now.
If you are looking for a crossbow that is flagship but won’t leave you broke, Ravin R20 is a great choice.
Why Should You Choose The Ravin R26
If you loved the Ravin R20 but wants something more compact and lighter. Then Ravin R20 is your best friend. It’s basically R20 but shorter and more compact. The power stroke on this is also lower. The one thing where this lacks behind Ravin R20 is the speed department. Otherwise, Ravin R26 is the better purchase among the two.
Cons Of Ravin R20
One thing that Ravin can’t seem to do right is the scope. Once again, I am complaining about the scope of a Ravin crossbow. Sometimes, I just feel like they do it to annoy people like me. Not a lot of people drives deep in the scope to squeeze out the best performance from it. If you try to do that with the R20 scope, you will be highly disappointed.
Cons Of Ravin R26
I don’t want to repeat myself, but Ravin R26 also suffers from a crossbow scope issue. The brightness of this scope is just not that good. I was expecting it to get even more brighter. That way you wouldn’t see any glaring issues and wouldn’t face any problem in low-light. But here we are. The scope of the Ravin R26 should be the first upgrade on your crossbow.

Ravin R20 vs R26 Summary
So, which one to choose? From this two, I will say go for the Ravin R15. The extra money is well worth it. You will get a more powerful and faster crossbow. The draw weight on both of these crossbows is nonexistent. You don’t need to worry about that.
If the extra speed and the kinetic energy means nothing to you, you can go for the Ravin R9. Even in 2021, both of these crossbows provide an insane value.
