Centerpoint is a crowd favorite crossbow manufacturer. They are making crossbows for years now. Most of their crossbows are made for beginners and budget enthusiasts. Budget crossbow scene right now has more competition than top of the line crossbows.
If you don’t make good crossbows, people won’t choose you. It’s that simple. Centerpoint does make good crossbows, thus they are one of the crowd favorites right now.
Centerpoint has way too many crossbows to choose from. Which one is the best Centerpoint crossbow then? This is what we are here to find out. Without further ado, let’s jump straight into the review.
History & Heritage
Velocity outdoors is the parent company that owns both Centerpoint crossbow and Ravin crossbows. We all know just how good Ravin crossbows are. Centerpoint is no exception. Velocity outdoors goal was to dominate the outdoor sports section and they are doing that quite well. Ravin is the first crossbow manufacturer to breakthrough the 500 FPS barrier. While Centerpoint is dominating the budget tier crossbow scene.
Together they are here to prosper for a long time.
Both Centerpoint and Ravin crossbows are made in Superiors, Wisconsin.
Their goal is to ensure hunters get the best equipment and they will go to any length to make sure they do that.
Centerpoint Technologies
Centerpoint uses the HeliCoil technology in their crossbows. It’s a great technology that ensures the strength between the CAM and the string to be strong. HeliCoil also ensures better efficiency and ballistics control. Both of those are quite necessary for hunters to get right.
Depending on crossbows, the foregrip is always different. Centerpoint uses a grip style called webbed foregrip. The foregrip has multiple spider-web style textures. That texture aids you to grip the crossbow better.
Most crossbows tend to ignore this to save some money. integrated string stoppers can reduce the noise of a crossbow greatly. This also saves your crossbow from unintentional string breaking as well.
Centerpoint Accessories
Arrows: Centerpoint calls their arrows Carbon arrows. The crossbow you choose will come with at least two carbon arrows. But two is not enough for any sports or hunting. You can find Carbon arrows at different weights to suit your crossbow the best. Make sure that the arrow you choose supports the crossbow you have.
Broadhead: Broadheads are excellent gear for hunting. They make hunting a lot easier. Usually with just the arrow only, a running animal might keep running if you don’t hit any vital organs. But if you hit it with a broadhead, the inside of the animals will start to cramp as the broadhead will grab the meat from inside. Making sure the target falls.
Crossbow cases: Centerpoint has tons of different crossbow cases at different price point. All of them are quite good and tested by reviewers. The hard-carrying shell is the one we recommend. As they are the heavy-duty one.
Silent Cranking Device: Centerpoint has their own silent cranking device that supports their crossbows. The cranking device is quite expensive. More expensive than other companies cranking devices.
Power Draw: The idea behind the power draw is the same as a cranking device. But power draw does it less efficiently and is quite cheap.
Rope cocking device: If you don’t want to spend a ton behind a cranking device, get yourself a rope cocking device. It will cut down the draw weight of your crossbow by 50%.

More competition means better for consumers. With 380 FPS, you are allowed to participate in all big-game hunting and similar events. You will enjoy solo hunting as well.
Whisper Silencing System. The main selling point of this crossbow is not the speed. It’s the noise dampening system. Whisper silencing system is CenterPoint’s own invention. It uses two string stoppers along side noise dampeners in the CAM system. Making the entire crossbow deadly silent.
120ft-lbs of kinetic energy. That’s right. It’s quite powerful as well. 120ft-lbs is enough to nail down big animals as well. You can hunt deer with ease.
Quad limb setup with machined aluminum rail. To make the crossbow more powerful and durable, Centerpoint used Quad limp system to make this crossbow. Here, it uses 4 limbs instead of two. It increases the tension of the string, making it more powerful to shoot.

Centerpoint Heat 415 is one of the fastest Centerpoint crossbows on the market. It’s amazing how Centerpoint managed to pack so many features into it without inflating the price too much. Let’s talk about some of those.
415 FPS. As the name suggests, the crossbow is capable of reaching up to 415 FPS speed. That’s an incredible feat. That’s more than what Ravin R10 can reach. While Ravin R10 is definitely a better crossbow overall, there is nothing stopping me from calling it the budget Ravin R10. Except, there isn’t a cranking device included with the crossbow.
CNC machined CAM and aluminum rails. Both CAM and the rail is constructed from CNC machined aluminum. The build quality is solid and there isn’t any anodization defect or bent corners in the aluminum part. QC is quite high on this bow.
153ft-lbs of kinetic energy. How incredible is that? It’s definitely the most powerful crossbow we are reviewing today. With that much of energy paired up with that speed, you can nail any prey you want in the world. Even the biggest of bears will fall against this mighty bow. Just don’t bare your location in front of a bear. (I couldn’t help myself).

Mercenaries might not carry this crossbow around. But there is nothing stopping Centerpoint from calling this the Mercenary. Just like mercenary who stomps their prey without mercy, the Mercenary 390 knows no mercy as well. Have to admit, Centerpoint is quite good at naming their crossbows. Color me impressed.
390 FPS. While it may not be as fast as the Heat, it’s not slow either. 390 FPS is quite similar to 400 FPS. 390 FPS is more than enough for any sorts tactical shooting and hunting. If you are going to gift this to a youngster or newbie, they will have the best day of their life without any doubt.
Adjustable stock. Centerpoint loves their adjustable butt stocks. So do we. The adjustability of this stock piece makes it more viable to niche hunters. Young hunters and female hunters will be beneficial from it tremendously.
Machined aluminum rail. Just like every other Centerpoint crossbows available, the Mercenary 390 also features the well-known machined aluminum rail construction. The final crossbow on the list is a recurve crossbow. You might know Excalibur for making recurve crossbows. It’s not the first time some other manufacturers tried to dip their toes in the recurve scene. Recurve crossbows are famous for their ease of access. They are not the fastest nor most powerful. They are decent choice for beginner hunters.
Ease of use. Recurve crossbow setup and fixing is quite simple and easy. You can do it yourself with the help of a guide from YouTube or reading the included manual. But fixing a compound bow by yourself is quite hard. That’s why a lot of hunters recommend purchasing recurve bow as the first crossbow.
Affordable. The price tag on this crossbow is quite attractive. One of the key reasons why this crossbow is sold so much. The speed of this crossbow is not that good. 245 FPS is nothing extra ordinary. While it’s enough to hunt small animals, it’s nowhere near enough for hunting games.
Decent build quality. For the money, you shouldn’t expect the best built crossbow. If you are expecting a decently made crossbow, then you will be quite happy.
Quick Facts:
It’s not the fastest Centerpoint crossbow. It’s not even comparable to other Centerpoint crossbows we have here. But if you see on the recurve angle! then it’s the best.
Pros
- Affordable.
- Decent build quality.
- Decent sight included.
- Good service warranty.
- Quite low draw weight.
Cons
- Not that fast nor its powerful.

Of course, you can. You can hunt more than deer with the crossbow as well. Make sure to buy the correct crossbow for the task you are doing. While all of the Centerpoint crossbows are capable of hunting deer, all of them aren’t capable of hunting larger animals.
How To Cock A Centerpoint Crossbow?
First, what kind of cocking device are you using? If it’s the included one, that means you are using a rope cocking device.
Rope cocking device has two finger hooks. You place one finger hooks underneath the bow string and then pull the bowstring towards the latch with your dominated hand. Make sure the crossbow is facing the ground. This way, even if accident happens, it won’t hurt you at all.
How To Decock A Centerpoint Crossbow?
Before decocking the crossbow, make sure you remove the crossbow bolt first. If your crossbow has a string stopper, then the process will be much smoother and easier. You need to use the rope cocking device the same way you did while cocking the crossbow. Keep in mind the release will have more pressure.
Make sure you are facing the ground again. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of manually decocking the crossbow, just remove the bolt and shot an empty one. Remember it’s not wise to do that always. The string longevity will be harmed from empty shots.

The recommended range for sighting a crossbow scope is 20 yards. Make sure that the windage and elevation settings are right and accurate. Keep changing them till you get them at the accuracy you want. As the parallax of the scope will be fixed, you can’t do anything to change that.
Shoot a target, see how much you need to compensate to aim it towards the bullseye more. Adjust to that reading and sight in the crossbow.
How To Pull Back A Centerpoint Crossbow
Pulling back a crossbow can be compared to cocking a crossbow. You pull back the string to the latch. You can do it the same way you would cock your crossbow. Use the rope cocker, put one foot in the foot stirrup and pull the string towards you with full force.
How Far Can A Centerpoint Crossbow Shoot?
Crossbows aren’t known for their long-range capabilities. Most of the time, your hunting will be limited within 60-80 yards. Depending on which Centerpoint crossbow you end up buying, you can expect the crossbow to shoot accurately up to 80-100 yards or so. Beyond that expecting 100% accuracy is hard.
