Ravin R10 vs R26: Which One Should You Get!

March 10, 2021 by Оксана Кардаш

Ravin has a tendency to make two or more crossbows with almost similar specification. You can say one is the successor of the other one. But we are not here to talk about the heritage of Ravin. While heritage of Ravin is fairly important, I am sure we got something better to discuss. That’s right, I am talking about two crossbows made from Ravin to dominate the mid-high-end market of crossbows.

Why mid-high-end? Did I make up a new term? You bet I did. This price range is flagship. It’s premium but doesn’t cost as much as most of the high-end Ravin crossbows. Without further ado, let’s get this started.

Ravin R10 & Ravin R26: Key Differences

  • Ravin R26 is a bit lighter than the Ravin R10. Not by much, but it’s lighter.
  • Ravin R26 is smaller than R10.
  • Ravin R26 is also more compact than R10.

Besides the size and the weight, the two doesn’t have any more differences. It’s absurd to think how Ravin managed to squeeze the Ravin R10 and make it even more compact.

Ravin R10 Crossbow: Advantages

Honestly, you can already guess this comparison will be pale compared to other Ravin crossbow comparisons. Because there isn’t much to compare.

I mean come on, Ravin R10 is a good crossbow to begin with. 400 FPS with 142 ft-lbs of kinetic energy, all that for less than $1500. Quite an insane deal to pass on.

Ravin R26 Crossbow: Advantages

The main advantage R26 has over the R10 is the size. It’s more compact and lightweight. The weight difference isn’t that big. But the width and the length difference is quite noticeable. In my opinion, this is the only reason why you should get the R26 over the R10. If you want a more compact crossbow, you just have to pay the premium.

And trust me, it’s well worth it.

Disadvantages Of Ravin R10

One of the main gripes with Ravin R10 was the scope. The included scope just wasn’t good enough to be paired with this crossbow. Sure, it can keep up with the speed and the recoil. For long-range performance, there are better scopes out there.

Disadvantages Of Ravin R26

The main disadvantages of the Ravin R26 is the silent cranking aid. It’s not from any noteworthy manufacturer. That’s why, you can’t replace it on your own. If something happens to this, then you need to send it to the warranty.

Another annoying part of the crossbow is the arrow. You won’t get the promised speed or energy from using third party arrows. You need to buy arrows from Ravin to reach that speed. Ravin won’t overcharge you for the arrows. But that makes you dependent on Ravin. If they go out of stock, then good luck finding them on the second-hand market.

Ravin R10 vs R26 Summary

There isn’t much there to talk about that differentiates the crossbows. Both of them are the same crossbows. Ravin R10 itself is an award-winning crossbow. You take that technology and shrink the device. Of course, people will love it.

But you have to keep in mind, the price gap between the two is huge. Are you willing to pay the premium for a smaller crossbow? Is the small form factor necessary for you? Then go for the Ravin R26. Otherwise, stick with the Ravin R10.
