Finally, decided to get the best market has to offer? Welcome, my fellow confused brethren. We all have been there. Ravin has been making some of the best crossbows on the market for ages now.
By doing that, they are increasing the competition and becoming their own competitor. Didn’t get me? Read the title again. It’s a comparison post between Ravin R20 vs R29. Why are we featuring two crossbows from the same manufacturer? Let’s find that out.

Ravin R20 & R29: Key Differences
Size: The key difference between the Ravin R20 and R29 is their size. The Ravin R29 is a tad bit smaller than Ravin R20. I know that’s crazy, right? One might think Ravin R29 is the bigger one, as it has a bigger number in the name. That’s not how naming works, you know.
Weight: The next key difference between the two is their weight. Even though the weight difference is not massive, you can still tell which one is heavier by holding them both. Ravin R29 is smaller and lighter than Ravin R20. You can say Ravin took everything from R20 and shrank it a little.
Compactness: Why didn’t I mention it in the size department? Why indeed. The width of the Ravin R29 is a lot smaller than Ravin R20. Ravin’s R series crossbows are super compact, to begin with. You take that compact crossbow and shrink it by almost 4″. How impressive is that?
Ravin R20 Crossbow Advantages
Ravin R20 is the upgraded version of Ravin R10 & it was a tremendous crossbow that hit the community like a cyclone. It went ahead and won many awards that year. Ravin R20 held that legacy quite well. You can say, Ravin R20 is the bigger version of the Ravin R10.
Ravin R20 can fire at an incredible speed of 430 FPS. Each of those shots will be accompanied by 164 ft-lbs of kinetic energy. Rest in peace, whichever target you had in front of you.
Another thing Ravin R20 has the Ravin R29 beat is the price. As the Ravin R20 is a bit old now (not that much just 2 years), prices started to come down a bit. If you want to have the Ravin R29 but can’t stretch the budget, Ravin R20 is the way.
Ravin R29 Crossbow Advantages
Suppose, you liked the Ravin R10, R20, R26, and everything Ravin has to offer so far. But that’s not clicking with you. You want the very best that Ravin has to offer this very moment. Ravin R29 is waiting for you.
Ravin R29 is by far the best crossbow Ravin ever produced. Bold claim? Try the crossbow out for a bit and you will tend to agree with me too. The crank, the speed, the kinetic energy, the superb build quality, the weight distribution, the flight track, everything feels so smooth and good. If you get the Ravin R29, you can say you own one of the best crossbows on the market. Another bold claim? You know it isn’t.
Ravin R20 Crossbow Problems
Besides the price, there isn’t much to nitpick about this crossbow. Ravin did almost everything too perfect. Almost? What is it lacking?
A bit more compactness, I guess. Don’t get me wrong, the crossbow is still one of the most compact crossbows on the market. The power it generates for the size, it’s insane to even think of. But I would still love to have a bit less width. I know it’s a nitpick. But that’s all the nitpick I have about this crossbow.
Ravin R29 Crossbow Problems
To no one’s surprise, Ravin R29 isn’t the perfect crossbow either. To err is human. You can’t forget human designs this crossbow and refines the architecture. What’s the dramatic flaw on this crossbow then? Besides the price tag I mean.
The only complaints that you will hear from many reviewers is the crossbow is loud. Trust me, the cam and the string are silenced. Yet the crossbow makes an audible noise after releasing the arrow. Not loud enough to wake up your neighbor. But loud enough to warn targets with sharp ears.

Ravin R20 vs R29 Summary
Both of them are like twins. They have a ton of similarities, while still having differences between them. Instead of fighting Ravin R20 vs R29, I think you should go for either of them.
Essentially both of them are the same crossbow with a bit of design and appearance change. If the weight and the size is a massive deal-breaker for you, then Ravin R29 is the way to go. If that doesn’t matter and you want to save a bit of money, Ravin R20 is the way to go. Whichever path you take, there isn’t a wrong one.
