The Barnett Whitetail Pro STR is an incredible crossbow. For the price, it offers a tremendous value with excellent performance. Beating that value will be quite hard. Not even Barnett themselves managed to do that.
Now that we have a new contender, the Centerpoint Gladiator Whisper 405, how will it fair against the Whitetail Pro STR? Will it bite the dust? Or defeat the Pro STR? We shall find that out shortly.

Pro Str vs Whisper 405: Key Differences
- Whisper 405 is faster.
- Pro str is lighter & smaller.
- Whisper 405 requires more drawing force.
- Whisper 405 is more powerful.
Those are the key differences between the Barnett whitetail pro str vs centerpoint gladiator whisper 405. Lets find out advantages & disadvantages.
Barnett Whitetail Pro STR: Advantages
As you can see from the specification chart, the two isn’t that far from each other. Both of these crossbows perform fairly similar. The 5 FPS is not that big of a difference. 400 FPS is technically as fast as 405 FPS.
You won’t miss much there. But you may miss the 7 lbs of extra kinetic energy. Although, a lot of you may argue otherwise. The included scope with the Whitetail Pro STR is quite good. It can easily keep up with the crossbow.
The cranking device lowers the draw weight of the crossbow to mere 9lbs! Even a child can load the crossbow at that point. As the crossbow features anti-dry fire safety, you don’t need to worry about misfiring.
Centerpoint Gladiator Whisper 405: Advantages
The whisper series from Centerpoint is quite silent. They are on par with Micro Suppressor from Excalibur. But that’s not the only selling point of the gladiator. The gladiator is quite powerful and highly accurate. The 405 FPS speed with 142 ft-lbs of kinetic energy is one hell of a combination. It’s ready for big game hunting right from the bat.
Although I will recommend a bit of tuning the scope beforehand. But you can get away without doing that. That’s a huge plus point for people that are completely new to the scene.
Barnett Whitetail Pro STR: Cons
The crossbow may be a bit big for shorter people. The power stroke makes it a bit hard for shorter user to cock the crossbow. Although, the included scope is quite good, there was complaints about the parallax issue of the crossbow.
Barnett Whitetail Pro STR: Cons
Like the Whitetail Pro STR, the Gladiator Whisper also suffers from bad parallax issue. The included crossbow scope is only good for 50 yards shots. Even though the crossbow can do far better. That’s why you should remove the crossbow scope and buy a brand new one.

Whitetail Pro Str vs Gladiator Whisper 405 Summary
Both of these crossbows are quite good and they fought a hard battle. Unlike most battles, I won’t give a decisive decision here. For me, both of these crossbows performed quite good. But the Whisper 405 will get an edge over the Whitetail Pro STR due to the noise dampening. The noise dampening on the gladiator is just better.
